Several cast members of the MAMMA MIA! movie will be travelling the world in early July to attend various premieres of the film.
Expected (so far) at most of these dates are Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Amanda Seyfried. Presumably the world premiere in London and the New York premiere will see all the cast. Producer Tom Hanks is confirmed for the New York event.
Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson will apparently be in attendance at the London (world premiere) and Stockholm events, and presumably also New York. Anni-Frid Reuss and Agnetha Fältskog have been invited to the Stockholm opening, but have apparently declined, despite media reports of an ABBA reunion that night. Word is Björn and Benny are definitely not going to Australia.
World premiere: Odeon Leicester Square, London: 1 July 2008 *

Hi Sandy,
Thanks. I’ve seen the stories today too. Benny himself has said that “all four will be there”. But will it be like when the stage show opened in 2005, when they all arrived separately, and were never actually together.

Sorry Leszek, I don’t know what time the festivities will be starting. In London arrivals started at around 5 pm for a 7 pm film start. I imagine it would probably be a similar time. If I find any further news, it will be posted at http://mammamia.abba-world.net/

Mamma Mia! Look who’s here: Merryl Streep and Colin Firth touch down in Sydney. By Christine Sams
Merryl Streep and Colin Firth jet into Sydney today, ahead of a whirlwind promotional tour for their new film ‘Mamma Mia!’. The famous pair will have a free day in Sydney tomorrow before a press conference on Tuesday. Then they will be whisked off to Melbourne for a red carpet premiere on Wednesday night.
But there’s no guarantee Streep and Firth will be out and about enjoying the sights of Sydney tomorrow. Their publicists say the stars may be too tired to cuddle a koala at the zoo or climb the Harbour Bridge.
“They have a free day on Monday, however no activities have been scheduled as yet. As they will be coming off a world tour (having attended the London, Berlin and Stockholm premieres of ‘Mamma Mia!’), they’ll probably be extremely tired and looking to rest,” said the spokeswoman from NBC Universal.
Despite morning press conference here on Tuesday, Streep and Firth won’t have time to attend the actual screening of ‘Mamma Mia!’ in Sydney. Instead they will attend a similar event in Melbourne.
Organisers have decided Sydney fans will be content with a video link to the other red carpet event.
That hasn’t stopped a number of Sydney celebrities from lining up to see the big-screen version of ‘Mamma Mia!’ – stars ranging from Damien Leith to David Campbell, Anna Coren and Kerri-Anne Kennerley are expected to attend the Sydney screening on Wednesday night.
Although Streep is famed for her Oscar-winning performances, she has let her hair down for the leading role in ‘Mamma Mia!’, the romantic comedy backed by the songs of ABBA.
Her male co-stars include Firth and former Bond star Pierce Brosnan. The film will be released nationally on Thursday.

It’s not quite the same as a premier, but if anyone’s a fan you get a good experience at the ongoing Leicester Square previews, including programmes, a traditional cinema organist and messages from Bjorn and Benny (and Pierce Brosnan) recorded specially for the event. A full review on my blog – feel free to link to it from the mini movie site…
